Alternative Living Theatre :-
Alternative Living Theatre (ALT), founded by renowned theatre personality Probir Guha in 1993, is a Kolkata-based non-profit organization that uses theatre as a medium for social transformation. Deeply rooted in the experimental and activist traditions of Indian theatre, ALT focuses on the empowerment of marginalized communities through performance. The organization primarily operates in areas such as Art & Culture, Minority Rights, Governance, Gender Justice, Child and Youth Development, Human Rights, and Tribal Welfare. Probir Guha, with his decades-long experience in physical and political theatre, has led ALT to become a platform for voicing the struggles of the oppressed and creating awareness through participatory and inclusive theatre practices. ALT performances often break the conventional boundaries of stage and audience, using streets, slums, and rural spaces as stages to engage with real-life issues. By integrating elements of folk performance, movement, and narrative, ALT has redefined theatre as a tool for dialogue, education, and resistance. The organization also conducts workshops, street plays, and community theatre projects that involve children, youth, and women from underserved backgrounds. With its base in West Bengal, ALT has had a wide-reaching impact across India and internationally, participating in various theatre festivals and forums advocating for social justice. Through the visionary leadership of Probir Guha, Alternative Living Theatre continues to challenge the status quo and inspire change through the powerful medium of performance.
